Butterfly Clam

Not our greatest picture but the back drop is the wonderful harbour of Poole and the butterfly clams are sitting on a great big antique clam about 40 cms long, seventy years old and from Mauritania, Africa. Back to the butterfly clams though, these are  fairly flat and for a craft shell these are a great size at 4 cms up. Excellent for craft work and these alongside the polished brown lip shells are great sellers in our shop for crafters. The inner part of the clam is polished with a natural exterior. Shell tip – the colour of all shells will fade if exposed to bright light as naturally would have lived in a dark environment so if you are using seashells to display outside always bear this in mind. These butterfly clams are really mainly bought for craft work but make for an interesting display with several grouped with both sides exposed.
